Being Multilingual

Image
The two articles, Aria  by Rodriguez and Teaching Multilingual Children  by Collier talk about what it means to be a multilingual student. Aria gives the student's perspective and then Teaching Multilingual Children gives the teachers perspective. In Aria , Rodriguez shows readers how difficult it was to fit in with an English society. In class, he had troubles with pronunciation and following the overall language. He never raised his hand and would always look down in hopes the bell would ring soon if he were called on to answer. Once teachers noticed his and his siblings troubles speaking English, they visited his parents asking them to speak English at home as well to help them in learning the language. Once this happened it tore the family apart because they no longer knew how to communicate and they weren't in the comfort of their familiar Spanish sounds. As time went on Rodriguez contributed more to class but then started to forget how to speak Span...

White Privilege and All Lives Matter.

Image
White privilege has been a topic of debate for a few of my classes but it has never truly made me realize just how significant it really is. The article,  White Privilege:  Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack  by McIntosh has showed me just how much white privilege has a role in our daily lives.  In the beginning of the article she compares white privilege with male privilege. I can turn on the television or open to the front page of the paper and see people of my race widely represented. ...

Growing up, it has been taught that everyone in the past has taken the journey to live a better life in the United States. Except, now times have changed and many things such as the economy, society, and the way people live overall have changed as well. In the article, “U.S.A., Land of Limitations?” Nicholas Kristof spoke of the huge wealth gap, that has been increasing over the past years. He claims that this argument is something not only citizens, but also presidential candidates should be discussing. In the beginning of his article, Kristof said in other words, that the society we live in, is the society that we ran away from. Living in America, we’re able to have access to things such as different types of health care and numerous jobs. For that reason, it’s hard to believe that it’s statically known in the United States, there's less than even 10% chance of people from the lower class rising to an upper class. Specifically, in the article it states  “a child born in the ...

Hi! Im Brittney

Image
This is a selfie of me.  As often as I can, I go out for drives with my boyfriend. In this picture we had gone to a park in Smithfield.  This is me and my boyfriend on Easter. Whenever I am not at work or school, you'll always find us together. These two pups are my world. On the left is Paris and the one on the right is Abby. I am majoring in Art Education and continuously make many art pieces. I will be selling some pieces at one point if you'd like to look at my other blog on  https://britttneygreeen.wixsite.com/website  in the portfolio tab.
